This project involved the construction of approximately 2 miles of a 5-lane roadway which ultimately extended the street cross section north from its previous point. Construction scope included widening the existing 2-lane roadway, storm drainage improvements, utility relocations, sidewalks, signalization and striping. Improvements were primarily located within city streets and provided much needed traffic relief to the area just north of Weslaco. Strict coordination was required within the various phases of construction and between all the agencies involved to minimize the impact to residents living within the area.
Hidalgo County Precinct #1 selected SAMES to oversee and manage the project. As the County’s representative the SAMES CEI team provided ongoing construction inspections documented through daily and weekly progress reports, oversaw the testing of all materials used on the project to ensure compliance with all quality control measures, responded to the contractor’s requests for information, and reviewed all contractor change order requests and payment applications for accuracy.
